| Popis: | 88 In the era of rapid growth and sheer competition, an enterprise must be in the position of information/knowledge advantage in order to hold the opportunity knock in the industry. Competitors are companies that offer the same or similar products/services as the enterprise, whose growth is greatly influenced by these competitors. Therefore, the enterprise has to continuously monitor its competitors in order for getting enough information and converting the information into intelligence. That is, the enterprise must do the task “competitor analysis”. Although information technology has been used in many areas and has many successful examples, it is rarely the case that information technology is used for the task of “competitor analysis”. On the other hand, the technology of knowledge discovery in database is getting mature and has been successfully applied in some cases. Accordingly, our research employs the technique of time series for the task of competitor analysis in an attempt of devising a method that can provide enterprises some information/knowledge advantage. The source of the data our method analyzes is from the Taiwan Branch of the biggest printer company in the world. The data contains two major categories of information: the sale and stock amount of the enterprise’s products available in different vendors over different periods of time, versus those of the major competitor’s. The purposes of our research are two-fold: (1) the data can be mined into an information/knowledge advantage for the enterprise — the most appropriate stock amount of a product to be allocated for each vendor at timely fashion. (2) this information/knowledge advantage makes it possible that managers make right decisions for the problem of stock-amount allocation, freeing the dilemma of over-stock or under-stock happening to many enterprises. The results show our method is quite promising toward this end. |
