Numerous manufacturing techniques are under development now. Among them, an advanced technology called the Viscoplastic Pressure Medium Process (VPMP) was recently proposed. Different from the well known micro-EDM, LIGA, micro-punching, and micro-injection, this new process is suitable for two-dimensional piercing and blanking, as well as the three-dimensional forming of both metal and non-metal sheet, with relatively high production rate but low cost. Accordingly it possesses a remarkable potential in mass production and is too important to be ignored. In this thesis, many related research works have been carried out, which include a series of pressure medium property tests; design, manufacturing and improvement of die;measurement of the process parameters; fundamental pressing experiment; computer simulation using finite element method and specimen profile measurment. In the experiments, pressing holes with diameter down to 48μm has been achieved. Complex manufacturing method was applied to resolve the problem of mold rigidity. By adding a high rigidness metal padding, constrain of aspect ratio has been successfully removed. The profile of specimen section was also improved using AFM method. Finally, the deformation of specimen and distribution of shear stress were simulated using finite element code-MARK.
