This paper presents the study of plastic injection compression molding process and provides an optimal process parameters for optical products. To investigate the characteristics of the process, this study discusses finished quality, residual stress and focal length stability of myopic lens manufactured under different processing conditions. A series of experiments were conducted by using digital photo elasticity measuring system to investigate the residual stress distribution the lens surface at chosen time steps. The injection molding process has a better controllability for the stress distribution and a smaller welding line. However, these studies also indicate that incorrect design of the heating and cooling lines for the mold may generate sink mark and shrinkage. The mold temperature is a key factor for quality product, therefore, experiments, with respect to the mold temperature, are conducted and discussed. It is summarized that B type without compression delay timer model can successfully reduce the residual stress problem and achieve more stable focal-length of the myopic lens. On the other hand, the experimental results for the mold temperature indicate that independent heating and cooling lines for the mold and real time switching control are two influential designs in mold temperature control. The results of this study provide a better stability and controllability for designers and operators to manufacture, design of a precise optical product.
