With the development of computers, simulation is often used as a method for solving problems. Many simulations need a random number as input and the goodness of their results is strongly dependent on the properties of the random number. The specification of the requirements and the evaluation of randomness of a random sequence are the topics of this thesis. Statistical property deals with collections of numbers and a second property of "randomness" concerns how well consecutive numbers are "connected" and how well one can predict the next number from a previous sequence of numbers. There are two ways on the tests of randomness. One is the theoretical test and another is an empirical test. The aim of theoretical tests is solely from the structure of the generator, whether particular values of a and c lead to non-random behavior. The theoretical tests are complementary to empirical tests. The empirical tests examine a sample of the output from a generator and subject it to a number of statistical tests. A random number generator is implemented by hardware. It is demonstrated that, for a specific value of constants, there are relatively small hardware solutions for a hardware random number generator.
