| Popis: | 84 This paper introduces our study on the design of the storage system for a video server, which can support multiple access points to the same movie object. We explore the feasibility of dynamic resource allocation to attack the shortage of resources at peak hours. We also propose a system architecture that integrates the disk storage system and dynamic buffer management for a video server. Access-Pattern-Control (APC) as well as the system design procedure is used to reduce the seek time overhead and decrease negative influences of load unbalance in the disk storage system. To provide guaranteed playback, we present interleaved data access scheme to overlap the seek time and achieve disk load balance. Predictive buffer management scheme is adopted to satisfy the dense requests and increase data sharing. The notions of the wait tolerance and turn-away probability are introduced in dynamic buffer allocation. We validate the superiority of the algorithm in resource utilization through extensive simulation. |
