The objective of TLM function is to improve distribution system operation efficiency and provide proper recommendation for system expansion planning. The thesis proposes a strategy for transformer load management by applying the power capability of Geographic Information System (GIS) in the area of automated mapping and facility management. Several application programs have been devoloped to fulfill the following functions : The Query and Display of distribution transformers and customers according to the actual geographic location, The Determination of faulted area and system contingency, The Connectivity of transformers and the customers served by each transformer. For the load management of transformers, the load composition of each type of customers has been derived to find the customer hourly loading variation. With the GIS system and distribution topology analysis, the three phase load flow program is then used to find the transformer hourly loading. Futhermore, the load forecast of distribution transformers has also been performed by considering the key factors of load growth and the saturation of end use appliances. With the functions provided by the thesis, the loading condition and operation efficiency of distribution transformers can be solved very easily and the possible overloaded transformers can also be identified on the actual geographic mapping system. It is concluded that the distribution automation system can be enhanced by applying the proposed transformer load management.
