The six-face machine tool discussed in this article is a patent of Giant Lion Know-How Co., Ltd. It has two rotary joints. By rotating the two links the orientation of the tool axis can be changed to desired one, but they are adjusted manually. To eliminate tedious labor works in calibrating, preventing it from losting accuracy, and for the sake of automatic machinining process in the future, it is prospective to NC-lize this machine to a 5-axes machine. In this text, the kinematic relations are modeled by the method usually used in robotics. With the aids of computer simulation the covering range of the tool axis direction can be computed. The motion of its head can be visualized on the screen once a desired direction is given. Conditions can be reviewed when the plate (or vise), on which a workpiece is mounted, on the table is tilted (or rotated) or parameters associated with the geometry of the head's joints are changed. Also some syntax type commands (line, circle etc.) are defined for describing tool paths in the part coordinate system; users can program them in text files. In the thesis a simulator is developed. After a file containing part data in the part coordinate system has been interpreted and calculated by the system, the results can be shown on the screen, and the machine control data file can be output.
