This research is being carried out as a part of ongoing research into usage of 0.7-in. dia. strands in precast pretension girders. With the use of 0.7-in. dia. strand in conjunction with high-strength concrete, longer spans and/or shallower girder depths are possible when compared to the ones using 0.5-in. dia. or 0.6-in. dia. strands. With such long girders and higher pretensioning force, lateral stability may be a major issue that needs to be addressed. Lateral stability of girders at different stages of their life will be analyzed. All the required data will be gathered from design spreadsheets, developed as another part of this project, inputs from professionals who have plant experience. Using all this, later stability is analyzed, and conclusions will be made on whether the use of 0.7-in. dia. strands will be of any use to precast/pretensioned industry. |
