Popis: Lobbying is a facet to a fair democratic system. Rather than looking at lobbyists through the lens of money spent as is the traditional method of analysis, this thesis draws upon the rhetoric of risk various energy and environmental lobbies use in their meetings with members of elected office. This risk is evaluated because of the critical role it plays in decision-making. Climate change is fostering in an era of clean and renewable energy, but how does nuclear energy fit into this characterization? Such a jarring and highly debated energy source, nuclear energy has risk factors that instill fear in both the public and the elected officials in the United States government. Comparing the rhetoric of risk used by nuclear lobbies to those of traditional energy sources or environmental groups, this thesis uncovers important conversations that must be had to allow for future energy development in the United States.
