The current study aims to increase the ability to detect meaningful change in an outcome measure of a caregiver training of persons with aphasia (PWA). The initial study by Shannon Melvin, et. al, (2017), collected pilot data on the effects of a newly developed communication partner training protocol for caregivers of persons with aphasia. The pre- and post-training knowledge of aphasia and their perceived abilities to facilitate communication with PWA was collected. However, the participants scored with 90-100% accuracy on the pre-test data collection on the knowledge measure, which negatively affected the ability to detect meaningful change from the caregiver training. In this study the knowledge measure was revised to include more content from the caregiver training. The results suggest the measure may better demonstrate meaningful change as the participant did not reach ceiling on the initial pre-training data collection. |
