Popis: This study uses data from Wave III of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health to examine whether any psychological benefits associated with being in a dating, cohabiting, or marital relationship differ for those in interracial compared to same-race relationships. I first consider differences in psychological well-being by union type. Then, I determine whether these differences vary by partner race. I estimate separate models for men and women to determine whether observed associations differ by gender. Results show that female same-race cohabitors have significantly greater levels of life satisfaction and fewer depressive symptoms than singles, but that female interracial cohabitors do not share in either of these benefits. In addition, involvement in an interracial relationship does not significantly moderate the relationship between union type and binge drinking for either men or women.
