Popis: Through the use of existing concrete confinement models and existing test data, a confinement model predicting the load versus displacement behavior of columns under concentric axial load is proposed for Concrete Filled Tube (CFT) columns as well as Circular Tube Reinforced Concrete (CTRC) columns. The proposed model uses equations of the reinforced concrete model created by Mander et al. (1988) with modifications made to the effective confining pressure coefficient as well as the constants based on the strength of the unconfined concrete and the steel tube, the length of the column, and the thickness of the steel tube. The proposed model predicts the ultimate axial strength with an acceptable degree of accuracy with improved corresponding peak strain predictions. The proposed coefficients are proposed for steel jacketed columns loaded over the concrete core and are not applicable for Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) wrapped columns due to the mechanics of the confinement.
