The world is full of strange places. For the most part, these places, small towns, offbeat art installations, roadside stands, exist without reason. They reach out and surprise us in the dark, when the highways are speckled with headlights, during the day, in the dust and dirt, at twilight when nothing much makes sense and the world hangs suspended between two equal propositions of existence.Garwood City is an interconnected series of short stories that uses the platform of a small town to showcase the fundamentally weird core of middle America. Each is written to stand on its own, but the recurrence of characters and places will help cement Garwood as a multidimensional place, acutely real but with something lurking at its edges, something that everyone can recognize but that only the locals are smart enough to stay away from. |
