Popis: Rhodococcus equi is an important bacterial pathogen and causes severe pyogranulomatous pneumonia, commonly referred to as “rattles”, in foals aged 1 to 3 months. It has also become an emerging and opportunistic pathogen in immunocompromised humans, particularly in AIDS patients. Although numbers of potential virulence genes and candidate immunogens have been identified over the years, there is no effective vaccine currently available for the prevention of R. equi disease in horses.
