Popis: | Manuscript 285 is a composite manuscript containing four texts related to Saint Augustine (354-430): (ff. 1r-62v) a collection of sermons and homilies (c. 470-532); (ff. 63r-81r) De spiritu et littera; (ff. 81r-83r) one of Augustine's letters; and (ff. 83v-84v) the Enchiridion de fide, spe et caritate. The collection of sermons and homilies at the beginning of the volume contains a total of 30 sermons, of which only 16 are now believed to have been written by Augustine. The authorship of 13 other is ascribed to Caesarius of Arles (c. 470-542), while the last remains unidentified. This first part, comprising most of the manuscript, has been dated to the last quarter of the twelfth century, and was possibly copied in Germany. On the last page (f. 62v) an ownership inscription of Ten Duinen abbey is found. The other three texts in the volume were copied in the third quarter of the twelfth century, possibly in Italy. The manuscript is bound in a seventeenth-century binding of the 'Campmans' type. [Summary by Dr. Mark Vermeer] |
