An assesment about information services in environmental health existing in the National System of Information on Medical Sciences in Cuba is provided. The technical and information resources that support these services and, in particular, CD-ROM databases are described. It is outlined the importance of studying information needs as a basis for the user/service interaction focusing on problems that affect the environment and the environmental health in general. These problems generate significant information needs that requiere immediate attention. It is noted the Cuban collaboration role with the Panamerican Information Network in Environmental Health and in the information assurance of users from the country. Finally, the relevance of direct access to INTERNET is stated as well as the role played by information professionals in assimilating and/or using the existing information potential and new technologies. |
