Developing a collection in general terms refers to a process of improving and evaluating a set of documents or related resources existing in a Library. Evaluate, improve and increase the volume or topic of resources so that they are available to a specific user community and thus satisfy their information needs. The background that marked the development of collections began with the distinction of criteria for the selection and acquisition processes of bibliographic and documentary works. Currently, the process of developing a collection requires other competencies on the part of the librarian, considering him an information professional, and these new challenges require a leading role in the power to make decisions, in the formulation of criteria and standards, and in the ability to determine documentary library policies, adding the conceptualizations of collections as a service for users, but at the same time as an important heritage of each institution. |
