Popis: The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) approved its Guidelines for Professional Library and Information Science (LIS) Education Programs in April 2022 (Chu et al., 2022). These Guidelines establish both the Fundamental Knowledge Areas (FKA) and the elements that should make up, from a global perspective, the library staff training program. As stated in the document, one of its possible uses is to serve as a basis and impulse for the development of new training programs, as well as for the review and adaptation of existing ones. Therefore, they are of interest to academic staff, but also to students and organizations and entities involved with the quality of LIS training. In this communication, a reading of the eight FKA is made from the perspective of the commitment that school libraries assume with their community, the work they carry out and their development possibilities: FKA 1. Information in Society. FKA 2. Foundations of the LIS profession. FKA 3. Information and Communication Technologies. FKA 4. Research and Innovation. FKA 5. Information Resources Management. FKA 6. Management for Information Professionals. FKA 7. Information Needs and User Services. FKA 8. Literacies and Learning. Thus the FKA serve as a guide and encouragement to deepen both the central role that the school library should play, as well as the essential initial and ongoing training of those responsible for managing and animating them.
