Teaching role of library staff is studied as established in the national and international professional frameworks and guidelines (CCB, REBIUN, ECIA, ALA, ACRL, IFLA), as well as the main aspects dealt with in professional literature. The specialized and academic publications analyzed deal with aspects such as the evolution of the concept; the identity, status and perception of library staff as teachers; the main responsibilities that are assumed and the need for an adequate initial and lifelong education in pedagogical theories and practices. It is concluded that professional reference frameworks are clearly established and that there is a growing international bibliography that facilitates access to research results and documented reflection on the matter. However, there are notable differences in terms of the perception and status of the teaching librarian between the Anglo-Saxon and Spanish spheres, caused both by the different institutional arrangements and by the historical trajectory of the profession in different contexts. This fact, far from assuming an obstacle, it could be understood as an incentive to value this professional facet, as an opportunity to make visible the richness of library work, on which the design of the training activities that are taught from the libraries is based. |
