Essential in the theoretical delineation and in the practice of cataloging, the Principles play a fundamental role in the development of standards, codes and norms that guide the catalog service. In 1938 and 1964, S. R. Ranganathan proposed Canons of Cataloging. In 1961, the Declaration of International Principles of Cataloging was published. With new editions published in 2009 and 2016, which considered the technological advances and new possibilities of users' use of the catalogs, these factors also led to the revision of the Anglo-American Cataloging Code 2nd edition (AACR2), which has led to the development of Re-source Description and Access (RDA). Thus, it is questioned whether the Canons and the Principles of Cataloging day-log with the Guiding Principles of the RDA. The general objective of this research is to identify the relationship between the Chambers and the Principles of cataloging with the guiding principles of the development of the RDA. In order to do so, it re-runs the specific objectives of [1] analyzing the Ranganathan Canons; [2] review the Declaration of International Cataloging Principles; [3] analyze the principles and objectives of the development of the RDA. In this research, qualitative methodological procedures of an applied nature were adopted, with exploratory and descriptive objectives. As a result, it was concluded that the principles of generalization, consistency, compatibility, non-redundancy, and specificity approximate both the Canons and International De-clarification; which structure of reference approaches the Canons, but not the Declaration; that clarity, of easy and efficient use, adaptability and rationality, approximates the Declaration, but not of the Canons; and that breadth and circulation proved to be innovative in the Principles Governing the RDA.. |
