La gran sangre is a Peruvian television series, premiered in 2006 by the frequency Latina channel, which narrates the adventures of a group of urban vigilantes, who must rescue the daughter of a prosperous businessman who had been kidnapped by El Conde, the main antagonist of the first season. Initially, the series was very popular, which was expressed in high ratings, meetings with numerous fans and the production of four seasons, a movie and a comic, as a prequel. The success of the series, however, must be understood based on the social context in which it occurred, linked to an exponential increase in social violence after the climate of political instability left by the resignation of Alberto Fujimori to the presidency in 2001 and linked to the discovery of a whole machine of corruption that supported the regime. In this way, the series and the comic of La gran sangre should be read both as a reaction to the escalation of social violence of the time, as well as a means of sublimating the punitive punishment expressed in the outlaw actions of the vigilantes with which the reader / viewer identifies. Finally, it was found that the narrative of the series La gran sangre takes advantage of the bond of society and punitive punishment, in relation to the absence of the exercise of justice that takes place in popular trials carried out in the interior of Peru, which count with much of the approval of the population. |
