Media Programme (EU) - International Support for Media Education. For over a decade now, the European Union has decided strongly to promote media literacy within the framework of the States of the Union, with the aim of promoting a more active, critical and participatory citizenship in the information society. The volume of information we receive and the new forms of access and communication processing demand new capacities to access, analyze and evaluate images, sounds and texts that largely use audiovisual and multimedia resources in digital media. In this sense, the European Commission considers that media literacy is a key axis in modern democracies, so that just as traditional literacy was at the beginning of the 20th century a challenge for modern schools and societies, nowadays media literacy it is a key requirement of the 21st century in this digitized society of the "world of screens". Media literacy is understood, in this sense, as access to the media, comprehensively understand them and take a critical look at their contents, generating communication in multiple contexts. |
