This study discusses the reality of information and communication technology (ICT) applications on functions of the Library of Open University of Sudan, in terms of selection, acquisition, organization, analysis, and Information retrieval services. The (ICT) is one of the most important technical achievements in the modern era, because of their direct impact on the information and its methods of production, storage and distribution. The impact of ICT affects all institutions dealing with information, like libraries and information centers. The objectives of the study are: 1- to identify the impact of applications of ICT on Open University of Sudan library functions. 2- to identify the contribution of ICT on facilitating these functions. The researcher used for the purposes of this study, the case study method, and benefited from his own observations and personal experience in the field as basic tools in this study. Results of the study •The study confirmed that ICT has contributed significantly to the library functions of Open University of Sudan in terms of selection, acquisition, organization, analysis, and retrieval service. •The study confirmed that the use of ICT in Library of Open University of Sudan has made a major contribution in providing and facilitating access to library services. Recommendations of the study •The study recommends the need for cooperation between libraries in Sudan with regard to sharing of electronic information resources and benefiting from free online ones. •The study recommends the need for cooperation between Sudanese libraries in organizing and analyzing information resources, taking advantage of ICT. •The study recommends the need for cooperation between the Sudanese libraries in providing library services, taking advantage of ICT. |
