Studies developed under the theoretical specter of information science, in the fields of Archival Science and Diplomatics, with an important referential in the concept of “documental proof.” Nevertheless, such studies sometimes lack subsidies to place the construct in other theoretical traditions. In order to bring an alternative to that situation, we aim to identify a panorama of conceptions of “documental proof” so as to understand the influence of the concept for the constitution of scientific disciplines or, consequently, for clarification of the use of the expression concerning professional practices and theoretical constructions. Thus, we turned to theoreticians placed in the core of the French “school” or “movement” of the Annales, also known as “new history”, dealing with: i) the role of inscriptions for Archives and Diplomatics; ii) the influence of inscriptions for “traditional history”; and iii) materialness expressions in the bowl of material culture. Three meanings were finally identified for “documental proof”: “word imprisonment”, “reality representation” and “discourse legitimizing”. |
