The first librarian union in Bulgaria for electronic resources cost sharing had been founded at the end of 2002 year. The project, financed by the Open Society Institute, Budapest, Hungary, is an initiative of the New Bulgarian University Library supported by the libraries of The Technical University Sofia, American University in Bulgaria, Blagoevgrad and the Academy of Economics “D. Tzenov”, Svishtov. The new established union – Bulgarian Information Consortium (BIC – www.bic.bg) has a legal status of a nonprofit association. The mission of the Bulgarian Information Consortium is to provide the best information resources at the best possible price to the Bulgarian users, applying high professional selection criteria and offering the best services. The association is a national consortium with financial independence. According to the BIC’s statute the membership is on a voluntary base. The main consortia activities are scientific electronic resources and services promotion and libraries technologies implementation encouraging. BIC has maintained traditional and electronic publications covering the association’s initiatives. The Bulgarian Information Consortium achievements are based on the modern management results oriented style that relies on the member’s participation, coordination and support. |
