Difficulties to access to high quality information on the Internet have increased over the past several years because of the deficiencies of Internet search engines and the lack of information literacy. Different solutions that have been implemented by the library community to address these problems are discussed, in special the creation of subject gateways, which are the more effective tools for providing access to high quality web resources. Its characteristics, utility, origins, and evolution are analyzed, and its challenges and current role are discussed. |
