This session will explore intellectual freedom issues pertinent for professionals who are involved with youth and library and information services in many kinds of settings. In recent years there has been a growth of resources and services such as young adult literature, access to socially interactive sites via the Internet and graphic novels, along with changes in school curricula and programs and services in libraries. Now, more than ever, professionals serving youth (children and young adults) need to be aware of issues regarding intellectual freedom, such as censorship, privacy, freedom of speech, and processes and resources to support them in their work. |
