Popis: According to the recommendations by the European Research Advisory Board published in the final report of December 2006 on EU policy on the Open Access Initiative, scientific publications comprising results of EU-sponsored research should be accessible free of charge to the general population. Thus, European research projects comprise also education/information activities, such as training of fresh scientific staff, or making the results of research available to the public opinion. To provide a common ground for dialogue between the scientific circles and the society, the participants of the ECNIS (Environmental Cancer Risk, Nutrition and Individual Susceptibility) project have started developing a free-access subject-specific repository. The Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine (NIOM) is the coordinator, while NIOM’s Scientific Library, supported by the computer expertise of the Technical University’s Library, has started the work of developing the repository. The paper shall report the progress in developing the repository: selection of software, determination of hardware requirements, deciding on data base architecture and rules for the inclusion of documents. The repository shall collect and make available, according to the Open Access rules, the publications, reports and presentations in the fields of toxicology, epidemiology, food and nutrition, chemistry and molecular biology authored since 2005 by the 24 ECNIS Network partner institutions from 13 European countries.
