Sensory impairments are difficulties in seeing, hearing, smelling, or touching. These impairments make it difficult to perform activities of daily living, communicate with others, and understand what is going on in the home environment. The person with sensory impairment may appear to have dementia when the real problem is poor hearing or vision. A good approach to the patient with sensory impairments is important in order to provide appropriate care.
