The work deals with the conflict between association and state law. It examines the limits that EU antitrust law and EU fundamental freedoms set for association rules with the aim of promoting young players. The work also shows that the promotion of young players in football has a social function and specificities compared to other economic sectors. The work identifies the Meca-Medina ruling of the ECJ as an unwritten sports-specific justification for balancing conflicting interests. In addition, specific association rules to promote young players are examined in detail with regard to their compatibility with EU law. |
