The collection of texts, presented in this volume, comprises treatises about three main topics: problems of general aesthetics, questions of film theory and analyses of particular film works. In the field of general aesthetics texts treat traditional concepts: mimesis, aesthetic attitude, psychical distance, narrative event, sublime, imagination, emotions, all of them from the point of view of contemporary aesthetics, especially poststructuralism, with special attention to the temporal dimension of aesthetic experience and to self‑reflection. After that thorough conceptual explanation the collection proceeds to a kind of application of these concepts to the problems of film theory, namely genre and genre classification, identification and participation of the spectator and other facets of the specificity of aesthetic reception of the film work. The outcome from these two fields of aesthetic investigation is conjointly used for interpretations of selected film works. The objective of this method is to indicate utility of contemporary aesthetics to not only film studies, literary and film criticism, but also to cultural studies and philosophy. |
