Popis: | Abstract: In an increasingly globalized economy, effective communication is essential for successful business operations. Despite extensive research on Business English (BE), there remains a notable gap in understanding BE practices within non-Western, multilingual contexts like Algeria, where English functions as an additional lingua franca, secondary to French. Henceforth, this study explores BE communication practices within Algerian import and export companies, aiming to provide a comprehensive view of English usage in these companies. Using a quantitative research approach with a structured questionnaire, data were collected from 42 participants across various sectors and roles. The findings highlight a significant gap between the internal and external use of English, with BE mainly used for external business interactions. Key challenges include varying English proficiency, particularly in oral fluency and comprehension. Effective BE communication relied on clarity, politeness, and precision. Advanced tools like video conferencing and social media were underutilized. The study recommends targeted language training, cultural sensitivity workshops, and improved digital communication to better equip Algerian companies for global business. Keywords: Business Communication, Business English, Lingua Franca, Multilingual Context. |
