Popis: | Analyzing gender differences in abilities and characteristics of importance for physical education enables more efficient planning in physical education. The aim of this study was to examine whether there are statistically significant differences morphological characteristics and motor abilities between primary-school girls and boys. The sample comprised of 70 participants (36 males and 34 females), aged 9 - 10, who attended the Primary school "Mića Stojkovic" in Umčari. Two anthropometric measures and eight motoric tests were applied. The significance of gender differences in morphological variables has been tested by the t-test for independent samples while differences in motor variables have been tested by multivariate and univariate analysis of variance. No statistically significant gender differences were detected in body height and weight. The multivariate analysis revealed a significant overall difference in the motor domain between girls and boys. At the univariate level, significant gender differences were identified in 30-meters run from the standing start, Flexed-arm hang, The medicine ball (1 kilogram) throw from supine position, 6-minutes run, all in favor of the boys, and in Setting the ball against the wall and Seat and reach, favoring the girls. Boys showed a higher level of strength, running speed and aerobic endurance while girls performed better in coordination and flexibility tests. The results might be explained by gender differences in physical activity level, body shape and composition, attention to instruction etc. |
