Popis: Land salinization in Senegal is a national concern. It affects a great part of the groundnut basin population and makes agricultural production precarious. The search for high-performance species in salty environments is a priority. To contribute, this study aims to test in situ and ex situ the germination behavior of Jatropha curcas L. seeds. The studied factors are germination support, salt stress and seed size. Results showed that substrate, soil and cotton are the best germination supports (35.64 ± 9.72 %). The maximum seed germination was obtained between the 6th and 10th days (62.84 ± 8.41 %). In controlled medium, J. curcas seeds were able to germinate on 11.68 g.l-1 NaCl concentration. In situ, the germination rate was very low in grassland “tanne” with a higher salinity (1 ± 7.61 %) compared to 23 ± 7.61 % in less salty shrubby “tanne”. Small seeds germinated more than medium and large seeds (p = 0.017).
