China, due to its special culture, political regime and economy, presents a health system with remarkable differences from those of Western and capitalist nations, which can be obliterated in an exclusively quantitative approach of this system. Taking into account these aspects, this article attempts to undertake an overview of the development of the health system in the PRC during the three main stages of the country’s recent history, namely the era of Mao Zedong (1949-1976), the era of Deng Xiaoping (1978-1994) and the current period. |
