Popis: | In 2017 Brazil submitted its formal request to become a full member of OECD, given the presumption that the organization is associated with a seal of quality that might facilitate the attraction of external resources at lower costs, as well as foster the adoption of best practices. This article considers data relative to country members with per capita income similar to that in Brazil, comparing the periods before and after they became full members. It turns out that those economies have become more open to foreign trade, attracted more foreign direct investment, experienced an increase in the fixed capital formation and faster output growth, with some indication of a reduction in the cost of resources in their domestic market. It was not possible to find improvement in the level of domestic consumption therein. |
