Background: Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABC) are benign lesions, predominantly seen in the long bones of adolescents. Various treatment modalities with their pros and cons, puts an orthopaedician in dilemma regarding the optimal management protocol. Sclerotherapy is a safe, minimally invasive and cosmetically better alternative to surgery. Case report: We report a case of 20-year-old female who sustained pathological femur shaft fracture with ABC. The fracture was managed by closed interlock nailing and sequential, intralesional, percutaneous polidocanol. At three months follow-up, the fracture completely united. At three years follow-up, there are no clinico-radiological signs of recurrence. Conclusion: Sequential instillation of polidocanol is safe and effective procedure with excellent outcome. Fluoroscopy guided percutaneous sclerotherapy improves the risk/benefit ratio. Its clinical and radiological efficacy makes polidocanol an alternative superior management option in ABC. |
