At the beginning of the twentieth century gaming industry already held a prominent position in the Macao economy, with lotteries being one of its main forms. Their exploitation, especially in the form of monopoly, was held by the Chinese. They had means to spread lotteries within a very wide geographical radius. Therefore, this matter, although associated with the colonial economy, shows how colonial governance presented itself in unequal forms depending on the proximity to the problems. |
