Claireville’s discursive and narrative strategies aim less to get around than to denounce the principle of institutional repression. Like Cyrano’s L’Autre Monde or Dassoucy’s Aventures, Le Gascon extravagant confirms Louis Marin’s argument that in the seventeenth century the real power of narrative would be its ability to entrap power itself.
