Popis: Halfway between administrative instrument and propaganda leaflet, the court almanac became an essential text for European court society during the eighteenth century, particularly in the German states, where it spread from Vienna. Unlike the French almanacs, their German counterparts reproduced the whole organization chart, encompassing the entire social scale of court officials. Thus, it is really a paper court that should be considered in its different aspects and in comparison with other German court publications: the almanac is above all a simple yearbook of the princely court. As a book, this paper court is easy to handle and exportable beyond borders; as such, it has a dimension of propaganda, exposing the institution to all, a virtual court that plays on forces never simultaneously visible.
