The bibliography of the writings on Carlo Cattaneo has a complex and detailed history that has so far remained in the background. For the first time, this article reconstructs its different seasons, reconnecting their main stages to the cultural and sociopolitical climate in which they matured. It clarifies how the bibliographical criteria chosen reflected distinct civil and historiographical sensitivities, from the research of Antonio Vismara (1901) to the volume of Alessandro Levi (1928), imbued with antifascist ideals, to the studies that arose in the second half of the 20th century, in particular those by Umberto Puccio, Giuseppe Armani and the Italo-Swiss Committee. Finally, two appendices offer an updated scientific tool regarding the works, published from 2006 to 2023, on Cattaneo and his writings. |
