| Popis: | Sodium is the most abundant extracellular cation and has a normal serum concentration of 135 to 145 meq/L. Normal homeostatic mechanisms keep the serum sodium concentration and serum osmolality within narrow therapeutic ranges. Sodium imbalances are common in inbed patients, and caution must be exercised to avoid inappropriate correction, which could result in further complications, morbidity, and death. A quick formula is proposed for simplification of the calculations for correction or sodium imbalances. |
