La sociología de la empresarialidad étnica constituye un campo de investigación con-solidado que, pese a su heterogeneidad y sucesivas reformulaciones, ha movilizado una serie de hipótesis reconocibles a la hora de abordar el trabajo por cuenta propia de las minorías (por ejemplo, la centralidad explicativa de la dimensión étnica o la presu-posición de la existencia de un ajuste –afinidad– entre las características de las pobla-ciones investigadas y las características de los empleos que ocupan). El autor reflexio-na sobre la idoneidad de dicho modelo para explicar el caso español, recurriendo a distintas fuentes estadísticas y documentales, señala que la etnificación de los compor-tamientos económicos llevada a cabo por muchos de estos abordajes, limitan conside-rablemente su potencia explicativa y nuestra capacidad de explicar el fenómeno del trabajo por cuenta propia de los extranjeros en España.Self-employment and immigration in Spain. Beyond the ethnification of economic behaviourThe sociology of ethnic entrepreneurship is a consolidated field of research that, despite its heterogeneity and internal debates, has given rise to a series of recogni-zable hypotheses which are the point of departure of any analysis of self-employ-ment among ethnic minorities (for example, the central significance attributed to the ethnic dimension or the supposed existence of an adjustment –affinity– between the characteristics of the populations and the characteristics of the jobs they mostly do). The author reflect on the pertinence of such explanatory model to give account of the Spanish case. The article shows, recurring to various statistical and documen-tary sources, that the ethnification of economic behavior entailed by many of these approaches limits their explanatory potential and our capacity to explain self-em-ployment among foreigners in Spain. |
