Popis: Hutchison et al. played sounds, which were paired with either emotionally negative or neutral images, to participants during either REM or slow-wave stages of sleep. They demonstrated that such targeted memory reactivation during REM sleep, but not slow-wave sleep, significantly decreased arousal. This provides key information about memory consolidation/loss during sleep.
