Fish is one of the major sources of protein in the diet of the vast majority of people living in Ekiti State and Nigeria in general. This study was carried out to ascertain the possibilities of radionuclides pollution due to catfish consumption in the study area. The activity concentrations of radionuclides were determined in catfish and fish feeds using gamma spectrometry method. Committed effective doses were inferred for adults and children of age 10 from the activity concentrations of 40K, 238U and 232Th in catfish. The results show that the annual committed effective doses for adults and children were all lower than the recommended 1.0 mSv y−1 limit for memebers of the public. This shows that the radiation dose incurred from the ingestion of the fresh catfish samples pose no significant health risks to the population from a radiological point of view.
