Background: Spirometry and body plethysmography have been routinely used for measuring pulmonary function. Impulse oscillometry (IOS) is a variant of forced oscillation technique based on physiologic concepts that were first described almost 50 years ago are emerging in research and in clinical practice. Objective: To evaluate IOS usefulness in patients with asthma. Methodology: This study conducted on 50 patients with a diagnosis of asthma who were classified into two groups, mild-moderate and severe. Spirometry and IOS were performed before and after three months of treatment. Conclusion: Impulse oscillometry provides an easily, rapid tool to diagnose and classify airway obstructive severity in asthma. |
