Subependymal heterotopia is the most common subtype of gray matter heterotopies. It occurs as a result of a defect in neuronal migration. Subependymal heterotopia may cause epileptic seizures. A 51-year-old patient who was admitted to our clinic with unconsciousness was diagnosed as non-convulsive status epilepticus by clinical and electroencephalography findings. Subependymal heterotopy was also detected in the magnetic resonance imaging of the patient who recovered with antiepileptic treatments. This case is presented to draw attention to the non-convulsive status epilepticus, which is challenging to recognize and subependymal heterotopia, which may be encountered in the etiology of epileptic seizures. |
