Popis: Objective: Comparative assessment of the antimicrobial activity of widespread and endemic species of the genus Allium growing in Tajikistan. Methods: Parent ethanol extracts were obtained from fresh plants of fifteen species of onions from different climatic regions of Tajikistan. Using disk diffusion method the antibacterial activity of species of the genus Allium was studied against the four types of standard museum microorganisms (test strains): Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 4929), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 4930), Klebsiella pneumoniae (ATCC 4927), and Escherichia coli (ATCC 4928). Results: The highest antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) test was found in the extracts of A. oschaninii O. Fedtsch., A. altaicum Pall., and A. sativum L. Extracts from A. obliquum L., A. longicuspis Regel, A. nutans L., and A. senescens L. demonstrated a weak antistaphylococcal effect. Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Ps. aeruginosa) was shown to be sensitive to the endemic species A. schugnanicum Vved., mainly to its bulb extract. Reference strain of Klebsiella pneumoniae (Kl. pneumoniae) exhibited sensitivity to the extracts of the widespread species A. sativum L. and the endemic species A. schugnanicum Vved. High bactericidal activity against Escherichia coli (E. coli) reference strain was shown by the extract of the A. oschaninii O. Fedtsch. species. Conclusion: The study demonstrated that all species of the genus Allium possessed a bactericidal effect of varying degrees. The widespread A. oschaninii O. Fedtsch., and the endemic A. schugnanicum Vved. species showed the highest antibacterial activity.
