Contribution to determination of critical speed and allowed speed of navigation for vessels in navigable canals

Popis: Depending on the dimensions of a waterway displacement type ships can be in three situations: 1) navigation in deep water, when ship's movement isn't limited either by depth or by width of the waterway, 2) shallow water navigation, when ship's movement is limited by depth, and 3) navigation in canals when ship's movement is limited both by depth and by width of the waterway. Research presented in the paper refer to basic navigational characteristics of displacement type cargo ships (self-propelled cargo ships) of Serbian shipping companies, which in accordance with their main dimensions can be used on the network of navigable canals of the hydro system Danube-Tisza-Danube. Paper presents procedure for determining the first critical speed of navigation vkr(1), which presents the base for determining the allowed speed of navigation of the ship of known characteristics (vpl) on canal of known cross sectional area (OK) with precisely defined dimensions
