Popis: Both reading on screen and reading on paper are now of great importance in our daily activities. However, as practitioners, have we ever thought of comparing them? In the present article, we will first compare these two types of reading by considering 20 possible differences. This comparison will lead us to a question: how can we help the second language reader to be more efficient when reading on screen? Suggestions will be made based on ideas drawn from introspective verbal protocols collected during an experiment involving eight French-speaking undergraduate students who were met on an individual basis and who were asked to read a hypertext in English. Pragmatic avenues for practitioners will be suggested. At the turn of the twenty-first century, when an increasing number of undergraduate students must cope not only with hypertext reading but also with a second language, being acquainted with ways of helping them is becoming essential.
